David James Devey, 85, of Bethlehem, died, Tuesday, April 14, 2015 in his apartment at Moravian Village, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Miriam (Rorison) Devey. They would have celebrated 63 years of marriage June 5. Born in Homestead, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph H. and Grace O. (Fleming) Devey. David attended Munhall High School and received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. He also received an Honorary Doctorate from Moravian College. David was a dedicated educator, inspiring coach and gifted school leader. While he was teaching at his first job at Mellon Jr. High, he worked part time at East Liberty Presbyterian Church as youth director for weekend programs. He was close to receiving a degree, but did not feel a calling to be a Pastor, he wanted to work hands on with children, so he went back to a teaching career. David taught at St. Edmunds Academy, and later as Headmaster of Moravian Academy, Aiken Preparatory School, and Linden Hall School for Girls. He was a faithful member of Central Moravian Church, serving as an Elder, Trustee and Sacristan. He was Past President of Meals on Wheels of Bethlehem and especially enjoyed delivering meals. David was also Past President of Kiwanis in Pittsburgh and Past President of the Rotary Clubs in Bethlehem and Lititz.
