David J. Allen Sr., 81, of South Jacksonville, IL died Thursday evening, October 16, 2014, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born November 5, 1932 in Bloomington, IL, the son of James and Elizabeth Carter Allen. He married Lois June Lane on June 23, 1979 in Woodson, IL and she survives.
He is also survived by two children from a previous marriage, David Allen Jr. (wife, Nancy) of Wheaton and JoEll Allen of Peoria; three step children, Lynn Starner (deceased husband, Keith) of Vacaville, CA, Sue Kuykendall of Champaign, and Lisa Whitlock (husband, Scott) of Franklin; three grandchildren, Courtney Weinstein (husband, Matt) of New York, NY, David Allen of Chicago, and Michael Allen of Wheaton; a step grandchild, Linsey Whitlock of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Walters, and three brothers, Bob Allen and two brothers in early childhood.
Following high school graduation, Dave served with the US Navy during the Koren Conflict from 1950-1954. He then returned to graduate from the University of Illinois prior to employment with General Paving and Azzarelli Construction Company. He relocated to the Jacksonville area where he served as an asphalt superintendent for Illinois Valley Paving from 1972 to 1992. Following his retirement, Dave lended his expertise to Western Asphalt where he worked part-time for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and outdoor activities.
