David Francis Lucas, age 84, of Grafton, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown. He was born in Grafton, February 9, 1927, a son of the late Victor and Myrtle (Utt) Lucas. His wife of 63 years, Norma Elaine (Walls) Lucas, survives of Grafton. David grew up on his father’s dairy farm and served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1944-1947. He was a B & O Police Officer from 1952-1962, and served as Sheriff of Taylor County from 1962 – 1968. He managed the B & O Rest Houses until his retirement in 1978. He was an avid farmer throughout his life. David was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Grafton. In addition to his wife he is survived by: five children, Sally Payne, of Grafton, Susan Andrews and husband Lawrence of Centerville, OH, Robin Reed, David Lucas and wife Lisa, and Thomas Lucas and wife Sandy, all of Grafton; nine grandchildren; one step-grandchild; ten great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: two sisters, Virginia Taylor and Gertrude Bartlett; and one brother, Victor J. “Jack” Lucas, III.
