David Evan Jones of Florence passed away at Parkview Hospital on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, after a short illness. Known to many as Dave and some as “Davey”, he was born on October 1, 1949, to David L. and Rosemary (Bernard) Jones.

Dave graduated from Florence High School in 1967 and attended Southern Colorado State College and Colorado State University.

Dave was the great-grandson of Wetmore pioneers and lived a life close to the soil of his ancestors. His small farm with its garden, cows, and chickens was both his livelihood and his life. Right by his side was his wife of 51 years, Angela Marie Javernick. The two met as teenagers and were never apart. Dave and Angie have two sons, Jacob Lewis (Kelli) of Canon City and Chet Matthew (Nicole) also of Canon City, and his grandchildren, Taylor, Bret, Avery, Ryan, and Bailey. He was greeted at Heaven’s door by his granddaughter, Finley Marie. They all loved helping grandpa with the farm animals and the garden. He took them hunting, fishing, and into the kitchen to make sausage, potica, pizzelles, and many other Jones and Javernick favorites. Dave and Angie also spent many happy days at their cabin near Westcliffe with friends and family.

Dave is also survived by a sister, Carol Dunn (Raymond) of Canon City; brothers-in-law, Fred (Karen) and Chuck (Carol) Javernick; sisters-in-law, Pat Matz and Pam (Steve) Jones; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Special friends are too many to mention and will miss Dave and his willingness to help with any job then enjoy the party afterward.
