David Edward Byrne, 78, died on Sunday, May 26, 2024 in Seguin, Texas.He was born in Saginaw, Michigan on April 13, 1946 to Edward A. and Louise (Keeler) Byrne and grew up on the family dairy farm near Chesaning. He graduated from Maple Grove St. Michael High School in 1964 and earned a degree in mechanical engineering from General Motors Institute in 1969.Having always dreamed of flying airplanes, David joined the United States Air Force in 1971, completed his training as a pilot in Del Rio, Texas and spent most of the following 22 years flying all over the world as an Air Force pilot. His main assignments were at Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino, California, Ramstein Air Base in Germany, and the office of the Air Force Reserve Commander at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He retired from active duty in 1993 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. David married Patricia Henson on October 31, 1981 at St. Michael Church in Maple Grove Township. They remained best friends for the rest of his life and after his retirement, they traveled together to all fifty states.David is survived by his wife, Patricia, his siblings Fr. Robert Byrne, Letitia Byrne, Dennis (April) Byrne, Michael Byrne; nieces Virginia Byrne, Alexander (Azure) Byrne, Sarah (Zach Martin) Byrne, Benjamin Byrne; in-laws Allan Henson, Steve Henson, Lynn Henson; his aunt Ann Sleno and many cousins. He was pre-deceased by his parents, in-laws Arthur and Frances Henson, brother-in-law Michael Henson, and many aunts and uncles.He was an avid reader, enjoyed putting together models of classic airplanes, ships, and military vehicles, building cabinets and display cases for his models, traveling with Pat, and listening to country music and classic music from the 50s and 60s.
