David E. Gray, 72 of Freeport passed away at OSF St. Anthony Hospital on Sunday, November 21st after a brief illness.
He was born on December 13, 1948 to the late Earl and Ethel (Whitmore) Gray in Glasford, IL. He married Betty Babcock on August 10, 1968 in McConnell, IL. Together they raised a family of three children.
He was a member of the First Free Methodist Church in Freeport. Throughout his career he did mechanics, RV repair, auto sales, and truck driving. Though officially retired, he couldn’t sit still.
He enjoyed home remodeling projects, car shows, visiting with people and giving many hugs to those he loved. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. He taught by loving, giving and helping his children, grandchildren and others.
He is survived by his wife and his children that include his daughter, Janet Lewis of Freeport; and sons, Matthew (Kathy) Gray of Oregon, Illinois and Michael (Janna) Gray of Lisle, IL. His siblings include his sisters, Barbara Odell of Freeport and Nancy (Orvis) Roy of Jamestown, KY as well as his brother John (Becky) Gray of Joliet, IL. His legacy also includes his grandchildren, Brenden Lewis (Meghan Pizzolato), Teiran (Madison) Hall, Kaeden Lewis, Kaeli Lewis, Ellie Gray and Holden Gray. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Leonard Gray.
