David Dwayne Hopkins, 58, of Colfax, Iowa, joined his mother Mary, father William & little brother Randy in Heaven on March 16, 2016, his birthday, after loosing a short but courageous battle with Cancer. Dave was born March 16, 1958 in Newton, grew up in the Colfax area and graduated from Colfax High School in 1976. He married his high school sweetheart, Tonya Brunner of Baxter.  Dave and Tonya lived in Baxter and for the next 14 years they raised their two boys there. Dave then became an over-the-road truck driver for a few years. He enjoyed the freedom and the sights of the open road. After years driving a truck, he returned to Colfax settled there, and worked with his best friend, Tony Nell. Dave was the definition of an outdoorsman and enjoyed everything outdoors from trapping, to hunting, to fishing, but he especially loved mushroom hunting.  He could cook up some of the best fish and mushrooms.  You could also find him listening to “the blues” on his head phones. In his younger years, he also enjoyed water skiing at the lake. Most of all he especially loved camping down by the river.  He was a happy-go-lucky guy that was quick with a smile and a joke for everyone, even in his last days.  He always made time for his nieces and nephews and was especially close to his big sister Nancy. He was proud of both his sons and they shared many good times growing up. Dave was preceded in death by his parents William and Marry Hopkins, his youngest brother Randy and his grandparents, Missimo and Marie Guizzetti and Ernest and Edith Hopkins. Dave will be forever missed by his two sons, Andrew David Hopkins and Brice Lee Hopkins; his four grandchildren: his sisters Nancy Hopkins (Jim Fields), Debra Dunsbergen (Gary) and brothers Bill Hopkins (Ruth) and Richard (Lee) Hopkins, his many nieces and nephews and a countless number of good friends.
