David Lee “Doc” Holliday, 58, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at the home of his parents Thursday, July 31, following a brief illness.
He was born in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Dec. 13, 1955, to John E. and Joyce D. (Bielby) Holliday Persic.
Surviving are his sister, Susan (Tom) McNeill of Goshen; mother Joyce D. (William) Persic of Elkhart; father John E. (Diane) Holliday of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and nephews Ryan (Lacey) Love of Japan and Mike Love of Elkhart.
Doc loved to be surrounded by nature and accredited his mentor and “boss” Rich Dunbar for securing his position with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, a job which brought him immense joy.
His responsibilities included the care and management of plants and wildlife at Eby Prairie and Boot Lake, where they will continue to flourish as a living memorial to Doc’s faithful care. His other love was music; he often sang and played guitar professionally at local venues. Whether it was touching one’s heart with song or putting a smile on one’s face with his ever present sense of humor, Doc will be fondly remembered by all he knew.
