A service to celebrate the life of David Larry Derrick,Sr.
Born in Columbia, SC, on October 21,1928, he was the son of the late Horace and Mary Jessie Moore Derrick, and was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Derrick. Mr. Derrick attended Columbia HS. He served in the Army, and attended Palmer College studying accounting, then later continued education in Engineering Technology. His work career included self-employment designing and constructing projects out of his home shop. He was a talented woodworker making memorable gifts for grandchildren. He was employed for many years as an Engineering Architectural Draftsman at Fort Jackson, SC until retirement. He also worked at Walmart.
Mr. Derrick was a member of Mt Tabor Lutheran Church, the Augsburg Sunday School Class, and the Sunshine Club. He was a Master Mason and Shriner.
He was married to the late Rennie Jean Williams Derrick of Columbia for 59 years. Surviving are his daughter, Rita Renay Derrick Hodges and husband, Mark of Williamsburg, VA, and son, David Larry Derrick, Jr. and wife, Linda, of Edisto Island. Mr. Derrick’s grandchildren include Craig Hodges (Susie), Blake Hodges (Michelle), Carrie Dukes (Jon), Anna Smith (Ben) and Meagan Bowman; great-grandchildren include, John Derrick, Wesley, Meredith, Jillian, Mark, Price, Nora, Corrine, Emsley, Harrison, Addie and Louise: sister-in law, Sue Byrd (Forrest) and their children, Robyn and Daryl and their granddaughter, Olivia.
