. Born in Trenton, NJ, he spent his formative years in the Garden State before moving to Titusville, FL at the age of 14 where he eventually met and married his high school sweetheart. David joined the US Navy in September of 1975 and spent 21 years in military service. He retired from active duty in March 1996 and began his career in the Department of Defense’s Civil Service. He retired in September 2020 from Stennis Space Center as the N1 Deputy Logistics and Command Services Director. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served in numerous callings, especially the Boy Scouts of America program, as Ward Mission Leader, and in various Bishoprics. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Oakerson, and his daughter, Laura Benjamin. Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife, Melody Wahl Oakerson, his mother, Wanda June Oakerson, his siblings Gerald Oakerson, Keith Oakerson, and Janie Ehmig (John), his daughters, Katrina Herbert, Faith Oakerson, and Tara Oakerson, and his grandchildren, Zachary Foote, Wisteria Benjamin, Caleb Foote, Izabella Joseph, Sarah Herbert, and Joseph Benjamin.
