“What you leave behind is not what is engraved on stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.” ~Pericles

David Marler loved with his whole heart. He chose action over words and his mantra was “just deal with it!” Dave passed in the early hours of March 14, 2014, in his wife Karen’s arms, with gratitude and grace, after a day surrounded in love by Karen, sons Kevin & Kyle, and daughters-in-law, Raven & Nicole. He was 64 years old.

Dave was not a boastful man, and he believed in teaching by example. He was a hands-on dad before it became common place and embraced grand-fatherhood as if it was his calling. He was passionate in his love for grandchildren Ben, Sammy, and Sullivan and he treasured their company despite the cancer that stole his strength. Dave was fiercely proud of his sons and their wives and he was his wife’s most ardent supporter. He was a warrior with a strong will to live and he had the privilege of knowing he was loved back as demonstrated by the actions of family, friends and neighbors.

Dave was not only a great father but a father figure to many of his nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband of over 44 years, a United States Marine, a two-time small business owner, an excellent steelhead fisherman, jet boat driver/river guide, loving son, brother and friend to countless others.

He will be remembered for his great smile, inappropriate terms of endearment, and selfless nature.

The Marler family would like to thank all those who took the time to reach out to him during his illness. Dave asked that his gratitude be expressed to the Boise and Portland VA Medical Centers and First Choice Hospice for their loving care, and to sisters-in-law, Barb & Ev, friends Donna, Guy & Viv who were always “on-call” whenever and wherever needed.

May God keep him until we meet again.
