David Cole 60, architect and educator, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2015. As an architect, he was passionate about creating designs that enriched the community and were sensitive to the environment. In addition to his many years of public and residential projects, he was especially fulfilled by the renovation and addition of his 1860s brick farmhouse in New Haven, IN.

Born July 4, 1954, in Ft. Wayne, he was the son of Carolyn Meyer Cole and the late Kenneth Cole. He was a graduate of South Side High School. He married Andrea (Sullivan) Cole in 1978. After graduating from Ball State University School Of Architecture he went into practice with his father at what became Cole and Cole Architects. In recent years he was also an instructor in architectural drafting and design at Ivy Tech Community College.

He loved history, and like his father, his respect for it was beautifully reflected in his designs for renovations and additions. David was an avid reader, contagiously inspiring the young readers in his life. He also loved basketball and supported his son James (Young) Cole as his most ardent fan.

He loved gardening and nature and was passionate about the shared family cabin on the shores of Lake Superior, Crisp Point. He was past president of the Fort Wayne Dance Collective and a member of the AIA Northeast Indiana Green Building Coalition.

David’s gentle spirit, creative brilliance, and positive outlook are lovingly remembered by his wife of 37 years, Andrea Cole, his mother Carolyn Meyer Cole, his son James Cole, his granddaughter Juliana James, his sisters Denelle C. (Jack) Wrightson, Diana F. (Jeb Waldschmidt) Cole and Dawn L. (Jeff) Cole-Easterday; seven nieces and nephews, Cole and Kendall Wrightson, Amelia and Ezekiel Waldschmidt, Dylan (Sara), Jordan, and Tynan Easterday.
