David Clarence Spurling, 81, of Jacksonville, IL died Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Prairie Village Healthcare Center in Jacksonville.
He was born February 1, 1934 in Jacksonville, the son of William Allen and Georgia Bernice Henderson Spurling. He married Norma June Witwer on May 17, 1950 in Hannibal, MO and she survives.
He is also survived by four children, Dianna Lynn DeOrnellas (Jerry) of Jacksonville, Sandra Kay Spurling of Harvey, Ginger Lee Thomas (Dall) of LaCombe, LA, and Neal Allen Spurling (Lori) of Brighton; ten grandchildren, Terry Lynnette Freesmeyer, Billie Jo Freesmeyer, Shirley Ann DeLong, Angel Lynn Cambridge, Christopher Spurling, Anthony John Curole II, Kenneth Tyler Spurling, Sarah Elizabeth Spurling, Michael Paul Spurling, and Bradley Austin Spurling; ten great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two children, David Edward Spurling and Judith Anne Freesmeyer.
David was a union painter for the State of Illinois, retiring in February of 1996. He was a member of the Springfield Painters & Decorators Union Local #90. He was educated in Jacksonville schools and through his involvement in Boy Scouting earned the Eagle Scout award. He was of the Baptist faith.
A talented trap shooter, David was a member of the Jacksonville Sportsman Club. He enjoyed duck and goose hunting, fishing, and training Labrador Retrievers. His other interests included bird watching, music, photography, camping, and watching ball games and NASCAR on television.
