David Charles Rife, 88, of Port St. Lucie, FL passed away October 8, 2019. He was born September 16, 1931, in Port Angeles, WA to the late Phillip and Kathleen Rife.
David was the United States Air Force Veteran. David attended the University of Washington where he graduated with his Bachelor’s degree before going on to earn his Master’s degree from New York University, upon graduation he continued with his studies at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn where he earned his Doctorate degree.
David began his career as an Electrical Engineer with Bell Telephone Laboratories in New Jersey and then moved on to work for Hayes Micro Computer Products in Georgia, he was awarded several patents during his career. David also accomplished many great things in this life such as honorary membership in Phi Beta Kappa, Tau Beta Pi, and Sigma Xi. David published a thesis that is now used in College Textbooks.
He was an Amateur Radio Operator for more than 60 years. He had many joys in life, he enjoyed hiking, camping, backpacking, and travel; always had a sense of adventure and loved taking a “short cut” which turned out to be a wonderful scenic goat trail. His greatest joy was his family. David, along with his dedicated and loving wife of 57 years, Rev. Dr. Joyce Rife, settled down in Port St. Lucie where he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Stuart.
David is preceded in death by his brother, James Rife.
He is survived by his wife, Rev. Dr. Joyce Rife; children, Cynthia Henrion (Joseph), Richard Rife (Evelyn), Carolyn Barrs (Jason); grandchildren, Domnick Doria, David Doria, Spencer Rainey (Brandon), Chad Shropshire, Cullen Shropshire, Madison Shropshire; great-grandchildren, Domnick F. Doria; brother, John Rife (Barbara); numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
