David Adams IV of Saucon Valley, Bethlehem, PA, died on Thursday, March 8th. He was 84 years old. He was born in Greenville, Alabama and graduated from the former Sewanee Military Academy in Sewanee, Tennessee, later serving in the U.S. Army from 1945 – 1946. He thereafter attended Harvard College, receiving an A.B. degree in 1949, having majored in economics. He then attended Harvard Business School, graduating with an M.B.A degree in 1951. Mr. Adams joined Boston’s State Street Research and Management Co., now State Street Bank, where he worked alongside such legendary investors as Paul Cabot handling the investments of the endowment fund of Harvard University. From State Street, Mr. Adams was then hired by Bethlehem Steel Corporation to manage its corporate pension funds, which were at that time the third largest of any U.S. corporation. In 1972, he was elected Executive Vice President for Finance and he later retired from Bethlehem Steel in 1983 as its Chief Financial Officer.
