David A. Poortinga, 75, peacefully passed on October 15, 2021.
David was born in Des Moines, IA on June 21, 1946, to John and Norma Poortinga and was one of 11 children. He was drafted into the Army and then spent his time after working as a mechanic for CASE then moved on to the place of his retirement at Label Advantage.
Dave met the love of his life Carol then married and they combined their families and built their lives together in Altoona, IA. David loved being apart of a large close family. He enjoyed spending his time supporting his family and their numerous activities. He was everyone’s biggest fan and was always involved.
He had many passions in life, some of which included camping, fishing, spending time in his backyard with his pond, being a coach in many different ways, and experimenting with new recipes. He loved spending every holiday with his family and making sure the kids especially had fun. David also enjoyed escaping the Iowa weather and traveling to
Las Vegas to visit his beloved niece Gina and her family for whatever adventures she had planned for them.
David had one of the biggest hearts and always welcomed all into his life. He loved life and was a child at heart, he always had a story or joke to tell. Anyone who met him became a friend.
Those left to cherish Dave’s memory include his wife Carol; 5 children, Denelle (Jim), Denise (Mike), Jeffery, Stephanie ( Daryl), and Dawn (Adam); 7 siblings; many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Dorothy, Denny, and Betty; and nephew Michael.
