Darwin D. Hansen, 63, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2006, at his home.
Darwin Dean Hansen was born March 30, 1943, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Theodore “Ted” E. and Mildred M. (Krogh) Hansen.
He graduated from the Anita High School in 1961 and then attended the University of Nebraska in Omaha, where he studied chemistry, mathematics and physics.
Darwin lived in Omaha, Nebraska, and Scottsdale, Arizona, before returning to Anita in the early 1980’s.
Following his high school graduation, Darwin worked for the Atlantic Bottling Company. He also worked at Gould’s Metals in Omaha, Nebraska, for a number of years, Glacier Manufacturing in Atlantic and most recently for Schafer Plastics in Adair, Iowa.
Darwin was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a car enthusiast and enjoyed fixing anything and had rebuilt a Jeep engine for his daughter Stacey. Darwin had a strong interest in astronomy and enjoyed John Wayne movies, scuba diving, hunting, and loved to dance, but above all, he loved his kids.
He is survived by his two daughters, Stacey Groom of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Amy Hansen of Omaha, Nebraska; his brother, Allan Hansen and his wife, Rosie of Atlantic, Iowa; and his sister, Lynette Hansen of Atlantic, Iowa; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Darwin was preceded in death by his parents, Ted in 1993 and Mildred in 2004; two brothers, Dell Hansen in 1964 and Terry Hansen in 1989.
