Darryl Lynn Cofer was born on May 24, 1960, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Barbara Cofer Miller and the late Bruce Bernard Cofer. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, July 18, 2016, with his loving wife Marshalla by his side.
Darryl’s Christian journey began when he heard a street preacher share the gospel on the basketball court. He stopped playing ball, sat on the monkey bars, and listened to the preacher. Right then he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and followed in the steps of that preacher. He became a member of the Germantown Christian Assembly. The church encouraged him to move to Atlanta to attend Carver Bible College. During his time at Carver, he met his wife, a student at Georgia State University and a new believer in Christ. With her support, he became the leader of the Georgia State University Campus ministry “Outreach For Christ” for two years. After he returned from his second missionary trip to South America in 1985 he was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis.
He graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology in 1989. Later in his career, he worked as a Network Engineer at Travelport. During his 15 years at Travelport, he developed many friendships that lasted long after he left the company for health reasons. In spite of Darryl’s illness, he never complained; but loved to tell jokes, quote movies, fish, and smile. He could not sing, but he loved his music. He was kind, giving, and always looked for ways to bless others. He will continue to live on through the memories of his wife of 33 years, Marshalla Cofer; son, Jonathan Brandon Cofer; daughter, Marshala Lynne Cofer; sister, Pamela Cofer Johnson; brothers, Bruce Cofer (Isolene), Tyrone Cofer (Roxanna), Maurice Cofer, Kevin Cofer; and a host of special aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
