Darren Dee Brooks, born July 1, 1961 to Philip and Nancy (Hudson) Brooks in Peru, Indiana, left this world unexpectedly on Aug. 25, 2019. Darren is now with his father, Philip E. Brooks, nephew, Tanner Lane Barton and both sets of grandparents, Edmund and Elva (See) Hudson and Edward and Norma (Hardleroad) Brooks. He is survived by mother, Nancy M. Brooks of Peru, Indiana; siblings, Mark (Shannon) Brooks of Westfield, Indiana; Michele (Jeff) Barton of Arlington, Texas and Katherine Lehman of Carmel, Indiana; niece, Jamison Barton of Arlington, Texas and nephew, Blaine Brooks of Westfield, Indiana; best friends Bryce Yoder of Peru, Indiana and Jose’ Camacho of the Greater D.C. area.
Darren faced many health obstacles in his life and was the youngest organ recipient in the State of Indiana in the early ’70s, receiving the first juvenile kidney transplant at what is now known as Riley Hospital for Children. He persevered, blazed his own path, he was a survivor. Darren was gifted at seeing light in the dark, living life without complaint and was the eternal optimist despite his battles with health.
