Darrell M. Bunge, 82, passed away on January 2, 2015 in Hereford, AZ. Born on April 21, 1932 in Rapid City, SD. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Barbara, and father of six, grandfather of eight, and great grandfather of two.
Darrell served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955, on board the USS Oreleck DD886 during the Korean War. While in the Navy, he married Barbara Gray on September 5, 1954.
After the birth of their first son Duane in Hollywood CA., the family moved back to Rapid City, SD. During that time Darrell worked in construction. Their second son Kevin and daughter Dayna were born.
To follow the construction boom, in 1964 the family to Granada Hills, CA. where he continued to work in that industry until the late 60’s. During this time son James, daughter Diane and son Daryl were born.
In the early ‘70s Darrell was employed at Montgomery Wards in Panorama City CA, as Head of Maintenance. In 1972, he then began employment at the JC Penny Company in Northridge CA as Head of Maintenance. After 10 years in that position, he then transferred to the Corporate Headquarters in Buena Park, CA, and was promoted to the head of their Energy Management Program. He held that position until his retirement in 1992, after 20 years with the company.
After retirement, Darrell and Barbara moved to Hereford. They enjoyed taking road trips on their Harley Motorcycle, and while at home, Darrell loved building, remodeling and tinkering in his shop on their one acre property.
To his family and friends, he will be remembered as a loving, giving person – always meeting the needs of others before his own. We love you dad and you will be greatly missed!
