Mr. Jorgensen died Thursday, September 17, 2015, at his companions home surrounded by his family.
Darrell was born on April 30, 1942, in Wayne, NE, the son of Hans and Clara (Frerichs) Jorgensen. He was raised in Coleridge and graduated from high school in 1959. He continued his education at Southern State Teachers College in Yankton, SD.
Darrell went into body and fender repair and worked in South Sioux City. Later, he purchased his own bulk milk truck. He worked as an iron worker in Omaha prior doing over-the-road trucking for Builders Supply. After five years, Darrell moved to Norfolk where he was employed by Nucor. Then he worked at the Madison Pork Plant for six years.
Darrell began his career as a furniture repair and stripper in the 1970s.
He was a long time blood donor and member of the Norfolk Morning Kiwanis. He was active in 4H, Boy Scouts and was a foster parent.
Darrell was a member of
St. Johns Lutheran Church where served as an usher and greeter. He enjoyed sitting in his special seat in his favorite pew.
He enjoyed the simple things in liferiding his bike on the Cowboy Trail, talking to the animals and the many hours spent relaxing on the lake and watching the birds. He liked to fish and was an accomplished wood carver.
Darrell and Sue were members together of Caring Hearts Cancer Support Group. He cheerfully participated in the Movement Disorder Class at the YMCA and was proud of his progress.
Family and friends left behind will be forever reminded to look on the bright side of life and to see the humor in our many experiences as we journey through this life. His passion was his family and friends.
Darrell is survived by his children: Deb and Ruben Ventris, of Omaha, Corey Jorgensen, of Gretna, Jill and Jeff Sock, of Norfolk, Tammy and Scott Barker, Spring Hill, TN, Elizabeth and Jesse Vincent, of Fremont, Michael and Bailey Jorgensen, of Omaha, Kristen and Anthony Pichler, of Omaha, and Chantel Jorgensen, of Lincoln; fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Randall and Carol Jorgensen, of Coleridge; special companion, Sue Susie Peterson, of Norfolk.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
