Darrell A. Strubbe, 75, of Jacksonville, IL died Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
He was born January 3, 1935 in Jacksonville, IL; the son of Paul and Bernita Allan Strubbe. He married Irene “Rene” Farmer Byers on January 31, 1975 and she survives.
He is also survived by six step children, Bob Byers of Jacksonville, Vickie Bolinger of Shelbyville, John Byers of Jacksonville, Ronald Byers (wife, Digna) of Hemet, CA, Susan Gaudio (husband, Tony) of Jacksonville, and Larry Byers of Jacksonville; six step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; a brother, William Strubbe (wife, Corolotta) of Jacksonville; two sisters, Juanita McGlasson (husband, Harvey) of Exeter and Shirley Gish (husband, Dean) of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Strubbe was a 1952 graduate of Franklin High School and later served with the US Army in Germany and Turkey. He was employed 25 years by Newman Shoe Company as the manager of the Emporium Shoe Department. He then worked for the Illinois School for the Deaf over 17 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and the Jacksonville Moose Lodge. An avid St. Louis Cardinal fan, he enjoyed playing pinochle in his spare time.
