Darrel Blake DeWitt, 83 of Newburg, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013 at his residence with family by his side. He was born July 15, 1930 in Newburg, son of the late Daniel Blake and Hilda Bell DeWitt. Darrel served two years in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired with 23 years as a coal miner at Island Creek Coal Company and a member of District 31 UMWA. He served many years as Fire Chief at Newburg Fire Department. He was a member of the Birdscreek United Methodist Church and Tunnelton VFW Post #2345. Darrel is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Mae Pyles Dewitt of 58 years; two sons, Rickey L Chidester, Mount Israel, Danny Allen DeWitt, Birdscreek; two daughters, Deborah Lynn Adams and husband Wesley, Newburg, Wendy Colleen Comp and husband Jack, Kingwood; six grandchildren, Anthony Adams, Wesley Adams and wife Davida, Jennifer Adams and companion Dan, Melissa Riggleman and husband Kenny, Mickey Comp, Danielle Street and husband Preston; eight great-grandchildren, Tyler Adams, Travis Adams, Helen Adams, Caleb Adams, Gracie Adams, Colleen Sprouse, and Twins Carson and Reece Comp; one sister, Barbara Metheny and husband Howard, Terra Alta; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Darrel was preceded in death by one sister Noami Hershman, two great-grandsons, Parker and Hunter Street.
