Darnell Lorice “Candy” Burgess, 44, died suddenly on Sept. 14, 2012 at her home in New Haven. Born in Albany, N.Y. on Feb. 2, 1968, she was the daughter of Joe Ann Fiddemon Vega-Cotton of Hamden and the late Allen M. Anderson. She graduated from New Haven Public School Adult Education and was employed as a Case Manager for the CT State Dept. of Mental Health. She loved music, movies and people. She never had a problem making friends with the many people she met during her life’s journey. Besides her mother, she is survived by her spouse, Melvyn Burgess; her children, Samuel Redd, Regina Crowley and Paige Stanley, all of New Haven; four grandsons, Derrell, DeWayne, Chase & King Redd; two granddaughters, Samarie & Sophia Crumpler; her siblings, Steven (Stephanie) Cotton, Debra Taylor-Collier, John Cotton, Peter Taylor, Pia (Brian) Taylor-Earl, Simone (Deog) Taylor-Ssemwezi, New Haven Firefighter Edward (Catherine) Taylor and Joelanda Vega, all of New Haven; also Curtis Nunez, Marlon, Derek, Sherman, Allen and Paula Anderson, all of Albany, N.Y. Mrs. Burgess also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins to mourn her passing. She was predeceased by her son, DeWayne Redd and her sister, Annette Nunez.
