Darlene Laney was born to Beatrice Laney and Paul Laney Sr. on March 27, 1964 in Albion, NY and was the fourth of six children. While in New York, she spoke of walking to school in knee high snow, but was very proud of her New York roots.

Darlene attended Beechcroft High School in Columbus, Ohio and was on the girls’ basketball team. She graduated the summer of 1982. Soon after, she was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit and joined a church where she was a choir member and married. She gave birth to 3 children and attended Columbus State Community College to further her education.

Darlene worked multiple jobs including Gantos, Marshall Fields (in City Center), Sears, and Bank One to name a few. She enjoyed traveling, concerts, roller-skating, cook-outs, watching tv, singing at venues, and shopping.

She is preceded in death by her niece Monica Mitchell, her mother Beatrice Laney, father Paul Laney Sr., and nephew Brandon J. Slate and other aunts and uncles.

Left to cherish her memory are her 3 children, Malcolm Jackson Jr. (Romique), Candace Jackson, and Samuel ‘J’ Jackson; her grandchildren, Rory Jackson, and Mia Jackson; siblings, Paul Laney Jr, Vanessa Laney, Pauline Martinez, Celestine Slate, and Daryl Laney; nieces and nephews, Janice, Tosha, Kia, and Tico Coleman, Sharice and Paul Laney III, Renatta Laney and Dewight Boyd, Reco, Keith, and Meckiela Laney, Deanna, Lanita, Aaron, Laura, Lance, Jessica, Roger, Chris, and Arelis Slate, numerous cousins and family members, and the city of Columbus.
