Darlene June Dennis, affectionately known as ‘Dee’ and her Kemetic name of Bakh Auset En Hetep, was born on July 11, 1951 in Elizabeth, NJ and attended Elizabeth public schools. Darlene is the beloved daughter of the late Lilly Archie Dennis affectionately known as ‘Lil’ or Lilly, and Nathaniel Dennis Jr. Bakh Auset’s journey on earth ended on Oct 23, 2021. Darlene graduated from Battin High school in Elizabeth, NJ then furthered her education attending Montclair State University as well as Rutgers University School of Social Sciences where she received her Master’s Degree.
Darlene built a lasting impression on everyone she met, by being spiritually astute through the higher schools of thought and spiritual consciousness during her earthly journey. Some of Darlene’s passions was the enjoyment of family travels, locally, nationally, and internationally with her extended family just to get away from the city for relaxation. Bakh Auset and her family enjoyed years of pleasure in the Pocono mountains and Atlantic City events and activities, as well as spiritual retreats in Virginia, including vacations in the south. For those who were a part of Bakh Auset’s village, they knew her other passions included cooking, sewing, music, modeling, dancing, partying, and directing youth programs for the Majestic Eagles – Newark Chapter, that she and her mother Lilly were members of, along with other family and friends. Darlene supported some social and revolutionary causes too, she was “Every” woman and a true trailblazer!
Darlene was predeceased by her mother Lilly Archie Dennis; father Nathaniel Dennis Jr.; her maternal and paternal grandparents and a host of Aunts and Uncles.
Darlene’s memory will be cherished by her soulmate and life partner Larry ‘Latif’ Nolton; ex-husband Arthur Singleton; three children Asha Singleton, Keena Singleton, Rasheeda Singleton; three grandchildren Rasheed Bratcher, Egypt Bratcher and Arianah Bratcher; brothers Nathaniel Howard Dennis III, Terrance ‘Aqeel’ Dennis and wife Donna Dennis, and Raymond Colley. Her nieces and nephews; Christina “Missy” Williams, Shantice Williams, Terise Williams, Ali Quan Rhett, Kelly Carter, Aqeel Saadiq Dennis, Naheesah Dennis, Jamilah Dennis, and Kaleef Lewis; And her step-children; Lisa Carter, Kimberley Carter Jones, Ishmael Medley, Rena Smith, Michelle Smith, and a host of step-grandchildren. As well as a host of cousins, relatives, extended family members and friends including her spiritual si*stars Delores Morgano, Patricia Spruce, Susan Burnam and Michel’le Atiyah Nolton Bey.
