Darlene E. Gordon
Darlene E. Gordon, age 90, of Stromsburg, passed away on March 29, 2019, at the Midwest Covenant Home of Stromsburg.
Darlene was born January 18, 1929 in a sod house in Arcadia, Nebraska to Henry F. Thelander and Amanda M. Gestrine. She attended Polk County School District 62 and Stromsburg High School.
She was united in marriage to Harold (Hal) Gordon on November 4, 1950.
She started working as a young girl babysitting and cleaning houses and detassled in the summers. As an adult she worked in various cafes, was a sales clerk at Kings Court and Patty’s Hallmark in York. Darlene and Hal bought the Dairy Inn and ran it for 20 years. They loved all of their customers, young and old. Working was her passion. She retired at age 85, proud that she had worked for 74 years of her life. Even while at the Midwest Covenant Home she wished she could get a job to work again. She loved being around people. She enjoyed going for walks, hoping to run into someone to talk to was a favorite thing to do. She and Hal also loved going to dances with their friends.
Survivors include children Michael and Patricia Gordon of Lincoln, Mona and Dale Herman, of Crete. Four grandchildren, Todd Gordon of Lincoln, Troy and Shawna Gordon of Lincoln, Mandi Herman of Danville, IN and Tim and Jacque Herman of Crete. Nine great-grandchildren, Terra Gordon, Trevor Gordon, Elliot Gordon, Wyatt Gordon, Coy Gordon and Phoebe Gordon all of Lincoln, Jaxon Herman, Laney Herman, and soon to be Norah Herman of Crete. Sisters and brothers Betty Nielsen of Stromsburg, Darwin Thelander of Peel, AR, Jean Twarling of Lincoln, Doyle Thelander of Lincoln. Brothers and sisters in law Delano Ahlquist of Loveland, CO, Hope Thelander of Onawa, IA, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and countless friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hal Gordon, parents Amanda and Henry Thelander, siblings Earl Thelander, Dean Thelander, Wanda Ahlquist, and infant siblings Dale Thelander and Maxine Thelander. Inlaws, Sharon Thelander, Glenn Twarling, Clarence Nielsen, Regina Thelander, Sara Thelander and Berniece Thelander.
