Velma Darlene “Darty” Rogers, 88, of Virginia, IL died Friday evening, December 22, 2017, at her home.

She was born March 19, 1929 in Virginia, the daughter of William and Daisy Alice Atwood Walton.  She married Dennis O. “Ozzie” Rogers on February 16, 1946 in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on January 21, 2013.

She is survived by two sons, Duane Rogers of Jacksonville and Steve Rogers of Virginia; four grandchildren, Brieana Rogers, Brandon Rogers, and Amanda Williams, all of Jacksonville and Darius Williams of Virginia; several great grandchildren; a brother, James Walton of Wills Point, TX; a sister, Betty Baptist of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Maxine Geiss; and two brothers, Harvey and Lawrence “Larry” Walton.

Darty was retired from Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville where she served for 30 years as a cottage parent.  She also maintained a lifelong relationship of personally assisting the Bill and Ada White family.  She was also a lifelong member of New Life Assembly of God Church in Virginia.

Devoted to craft projects, crossword puzzles, and caring for children, Darty rooted for the St. Louis Cardinals and was always ready to go on a trip with family and friends.  She had a passion for yard sales, flea markets, and auctions, especially those where she could expand her collection of occupied Japan figurines.

Cremation has been accorded.  Private family committal services will be held later at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia.  The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia is in charge of the arrangements.  Condolences may be sent online at www.buchanancody.com .
