Our precious mother, Darleen Hooton Wells, passed away early Monday, October 10, 2022. She devoted her life to her children, and to her husband, John R. Wells.

Darleen was born to the late James Raymond Hooton and Martha Maranda Fackrell, April 29, 1931, in Rock Springs, Wyoming. She married her husband, John Wells, on August 29, 1955, in Lyman, Wyoming and they were later sealed in the Logan Temple on February 14, 1962.

Darleen graduated from Lyman High School in Lyman, Wyoming and from Stevens-Henager College in Salt Lake City. She was a very fast typist and was an expert at shorthand. Darleen loved learning and enjoyed taking classes throughout her life to learn new things such as accounting, computers, ceramics, decorating, and aerobics to name a few. She became accomplished at tennis, pickleball, waterskiing, genealogy and many of her family members have beautiful oil paintings that she painted in their homes. Darleen was deeply patriotic and taught her children to respect the flag and to be good citizens.

Darleen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully  in many positions including ward Primary and Relief Society presidents and Stake Laurel president. The calling she enjoyed most was that of den leader in the scouting program. Darleen and her husband, John, served a mission in the Member Location Mission in Saint George, Utah.

Darleen loved it when family and friends gathered at her home for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Peach Days or birthdays. She was a gracious hostess and knew how to help everyone feel welcome. She always set a beautiful table and taught her children and grandchildren good manners. Everyone loved her breadsticks, enchiladas, popovers and “Humble” Chocolate Chip cookies.

Those that will miss our Darleen, Mom and Nana, are her husband of 67 years: John R. Wells; sister: Noreen Hooton Nelson; children: Marilynn (Steven) Stewart, Scott Emery (Kanani) Wells, Brett Randal (Lisa) Wells, Lee McKay (Pam) Wells; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews that called her Aunt Bunny.

Darleen will be greeted in heaven by her parents, granddaughter: Sadie Wells; sister: LaPriel Hooton; brothers: Herbert and Jack Hooten; Aunt Addie and many others that she loved and invited into her home and heart.
