Okeechobee – Danny P. Entry, 88, died after a lengthy illness on November 25, 2021, at Treasure Coast Hospice. He was born September 23, 1933, in Octavia, Kentucky, the son of John Edward and Mollie (Farley) Entry.
Danny attended Belfry High School in Belfry, Kentucky. In 1952 he joined the Army and served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. In 1954 he married his high school sweetheart, Anna L. Norman, and they celebrated 67 years of marriage on November 14, 2021.
Danny and Anna moved their family from McCarr, Kentucky to Okeechobee, Florida in 1969. He was the owner of Danny’s Chevron from 1969 till his retirement in 1999. He served as a city councilman for the city of Okeechobee from 1991-1993. He also served on the Central Florida Regional Planning Council from 1991-1993. After retiring, Danny and Anna worked at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
Danny was President of the Okeechobee Civic League and was instrumental in the building of the Okeechobee County Civic Center. He was a member of the Okeechobee Elks Lodge where he served as Exalted Ruler, the Rotary Club, the Okeechobee Shriners, and the Masonic Lodge of Okeechobee. He was also a member of Northside Baptist Church of Okeechobee.
Danny was a private pilot and loved to fly his personal airplane. He and Anna also enjoyed traveling in their motor home.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, John Edward Entry, Jr., and two sisters, Glendine Hetrick, and Lois Hampton.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Anna L. (Norman) Entry; are his sons, Michael (Norma) Entry, of Okeechobee, Joseph Entry, of Okeechobee, and Norman (Dina) Entry, of Cantonment, Florida; daughter, Suzanne (Neal) Von Stein, of Saint Augustine, Florida; five grandchildren, Miranda Entry, J.R. (Patricia) Entry, Danielle (Mike) Butterfield, Cameron Von Stein, and Parker Von Stein; six great-grandchildren, Elissa Casperson, Ethan Casperson, Brandon Entry, Kyle Entry, Dakota Entry, Patricia Entry; one sister, Mary Margaret Maynard, of Okeechobee; many much-loved nieces and nephews.
