On Tuesday, January 25, 2022,  Danielle Brooking-McDonald entered into a world of joy, love, and peace.

Danielle was born in Danville, Virginia on September 12, 1943, to the late Daniel Brooking, Sr., and Kathleen Jones-Hodge.  Danielle was raised by her mother and her late stepfather James H. Hodge.  Danielle attended Perry Elementary School, Shaw Junior High School and Dunbar High School where she graduated in 1961.  Danielle joined William McDonald in matrimony and of that union came Ethan Donnell and Melissa Tia McDonald.

Danielle was very caring and generous.  She will be affectionately remembered for crocheting/knitting a special blanket for every niece, nephew, or friend.  Family, friends, and coworkers admired the beautiful tissue boxes that she created with dolls. Danielle had  very unique terms of endearment for her loved ones.  To show her love she would bake a cake, a pie, or a batch of biscuits without hesitation.   Danielle enjoyed volunteering as a Foster Grandparent and dancing with friends at her favorite spot, the Glenarden American Legion.

She united  with the Open Door Baptist Church – Washington, DC on Sunday, November 1, 2009.  She stood strong in her faith and was proud of that membership under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Bernard M. Taylor.  She faithfully served in the Women’s Ministry, Helping Hand Ministry, and the Barbara Joyner J. Senior’s Ministry.

Danielle was preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” McDonald, her sisters Carolyn Brooking-Lyon and Gwendolyn Brooking, her sisters in law, Johnnie Mae,  brother–in-law Clarence and nephew Marlon Dion.

She leaves  to cherish her loving memory her beloved children, Ethan and  Melissa, her siblings Gene Hodge, James Hodge, George Hodge, Anthony Hodge, Danielle Drabik, Daniel Brooking, Jr., her aunt Annie Lee Perrin,  sisters in law, Daisy, Joanne, Deborah, brothers in law, Larry, John, Jr. “Bunny”, Ronnie, her nieces, Darnea, Carolyn, Kellie, Erica, Imani, Maika, Bianca, Ja’nai, Chauntice, Brittany and her nephews, Sir Jamar, Malik, and Khalil, and a host of other relatives and friends.
