Norwich – Daniel W. Kelleher, Jr., “Bill”, of 34 Thomas Ave., passed peacefully on Thursday evening, August 13, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of the late Patricia Anne (Higgins) Kelleher for 30 years. Born in Westerly, RI, he was the son of the late Daniel W. Kelleher, Sr., and Mary Agnes (Murphy) Kelleher.
Bill graduated from Stonington High School (1949) and Providence College (1953, B.A.). He served in the US Army from 1953-1955 (PFC). In 1961 he began working at Norwich (Eastern) Savings and Loan. By 1971 he was promoted to Bank President, a position he held for 24 years.
During his career he held many positions in the financial field and community development. He was Director of the New England League of Savings Institutions, President of the Connecticut League of Savings Institutions, Director of the Norwich Community Development Corp., and Chairman of the Norwich Downtown Development Committee. In 1984 he was named Citizen of the Year by the Norwich Chamber of Commerce for his work and effort in preserving the history and guiding the development in Downtown Norwich. Bill also was a founding member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and held memberships of several other social organizations.
