Daniel Gerard Wilcox (Dan), 52, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Mercy One Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, with family by his side. Dan was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on September 10, 1968 to Harry and Frances Wilcox. He graduated from Regis High School in 1986 and went on to play baseball at Simpson College from where he graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications.
Dan held several sales positions over the years including Anheuser Busch, E&J Gallo Winery, Acosta Sales and Marketing and Bacardi. Dan’s charming personality made him very successful in his career and allowed many wonderful experiences and memories. He became involved with Variety, the Children’s Charity in early 2000 in which he served as President in 2015. He also sat on the board of the Iowa Grocer’s Association.
Dan married Kristin (Rhodes) Wilcox in 2001 and in 2005 Abigail Frances Wilcox was born. Dan and Kristin divorced in 2018, however, their main priority was always Abby. Those that knew Dan would know how incredibly proud he was of his daughter. She was the topic of most of his conversations and you could always hear him cheering for her in the stands. His love for her was larger than life.
He was also a sports fanatic. Dan enjoyed cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins. He would hold the best tailgates in Iowa City and people would walk miles to find Dan before the game. Dan also used to enjoy hunting with his dog, Hayden. To say that Dan will be missed is an understatement. It’s hard to imagine this world without him.
Dan is survived by his daughter, Abby (15); his brother, Tim Wilcox (Francie); sister, Julie Wilcox Kjos (Chuck); nieces and nephews, Sarah Schwartz (Mike), Brian Wilcox (Friend, Stephanie), Katie Clare (Mike), Daniel (DJ) Kjos (Stacy), and Andrew Kjos (Cierra); ex-wife, Kristin Wilcox and many, many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Frances Wilcox and his brother, Harry, III.
