DANIEL W. SAPHORE, JR.

 

Daniel W. Saphore, Jr., 85, of Carlisle, died Monday, September 15, 2014 at home with his family by his side.

 

Born September 16, 1928 in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Daniel W. Sr., and Alice Agnes (Greenwood) Saphore.  He was the widower of Lucie Belle (Rodgers) Saphore who died November 6, 2013

 

Mr. Saphore was a U S Navy veteran of both World War II and Korea.  He was a prisoner of war in China.  He was involved in the clean up of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki and was at Bikini Atoll for the atomic testing program.

 

Mr. Saphore retired from Kinney Shoe Corporation where he was a foreman in the Last Department.  He was also a plumber for 32 years and was the owner of Dan Saphore Stained Glass in Carlisle.

 

He and his late wife were avid Civil War Reenactors and were long time members of the Carlisle Church of Christ.

 

He was preceded in death by a son:  Daniel W. Saphore, III and 10 brothers:  Robert, Albert, Alvin, Harold, John, Eugene, Glenn, Kenneth, Terry and Francis.

 

Surviving are a son:  James (and wife Malia) Saphore of Plainfield; a daughter:  Angila (and husband Thomas) Brownawell of Carlisle; a daughter in law:  Judy (and husband Neil) Austin of Carlisle; two sisters:  Muriel Dowd of Newville and Theta Nelson of Chicago, IL; three brothers:  Marlin, Paul and Richard Saphore, all of Boiling Springs; grandchildren:  Seth McCullough, Colia Saphore, Erin Saphore, Jeremy Saphore, Shawn Myers and Gina Widmore; step grandchildren:  Jason (and wife Kylee) Brownawell, Crystal (and husband Todd) Hall and great grandchildren:  Rylee Hall, Logan Saphore, Cody Daniel, Nicholas Myers, Matthew Widmore and Chase Brownawell.
