Daniel Theodore Politoske, 86, of Greensburg, PA, formerly of Lawrence, KS, died Friday, October 14, 2022. He was born in Indiana, PA on December 30, 1935, a son of the late Colonel Edward John and Gwendolyn Joanne Hanley Politoske. 

Daniel was a member of Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg.  He received his BS degree in music education at Indiana State College of Pennsylvania.  After service in the Army, he continued his graduate work at the University of Louvain and Royal Flemish Conservatory in Belgium.  He completed his MM degree in music history and a PhD degree in musicology at the University of Michigan.  Prior to retirement, he was a professor of music at Kansas University for over 20 years. He was a mentor to many doctoral students and his book, Music, introduced thousands of students to classical music. 

For many years, while at the University of Georgia and University of Kansas, Daniel conducted the Collegium Musicum.  With a love for music of the mass, he was active in his church as organist and choirmaster.  He had a great sense of humor and was generous with his time and resources. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dr. Edward J. Politoske and Dr. Joseph L. Politoske and sisters, Elizabeth Donn Sekula and Mary Ellen Phillips. 

Daniel is survived by his sister, Margaret Boehm; 10 nieces and 4 nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
