Daniel J. Shertel, 58, of Philadelphia, died Sat, Dec. 3, 2011 at Pennsylvania Hospital. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of Daniel and Mary (Mooney) Shertel. He was a 1971 graduate of Bishop Newman High School. He served with the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Daniel worked as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in South Philly for 35 years, retiring in 2008. He was a member of the former St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, the VFW Post 8051 and the National Association of Letter Carriers #157. He was active with the Fitzwater Mummers, and was an avid Phillies fan. He is survived by many cousins.
