Daniel was born in Deming, New Mexico on April 2, 1971, to Antonio “Shorty” Rodriguez and Carmen Palomarez Rodriguez. He graduated from Deming High School in 1989 where he played football and baseball. Daniel served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Nimitz from August 1992-94 and was honorably discharged. He then attended Western New Mexico University in Silver City, N.M. where he received a degree in criminal justice.
Daniel and his uncles formed a band “Cisco,” in which he played drums and sang. He loved music, especially Santana, and he played his drums until his death. He was teaching his grandson and nephew to play as well.
Daniel married Becky Null in 1997. They had two daughters, Hannah and Mackenzie. He was an officer with the Deming Police Department for approximately three years, from May 1999 to April of 2002. He held the position of patrolman after he attained his New Mexico Law Enforcement Basic Certification form the New Mexico Law Academy Class 44. He attended this academy from August 1998 through May of 1999.
“Daniel will be remembered for his professionalism, friendliness and his commitment to the law enforcement profession,” said Deming Police Chief Michael Carillo. “Daniel was respected by all the officers he worked with at the Deming Police Department. The law enforcement community lost a family member, as well as a friend. Daniel end of watch will always be remembered.”
He left the DPD to join the U.S. Border Patrol. He was stationed at Santa Teresa, NM and the family resided in Las Cruces, N.M.
Daniel was the “Grill King,” and loved Harley cycles.
