Dan Rivera, 86, a long-time resident of Azusa died Friday, August 23, 2013.  Mr. Rivera is survived by his wife, Sally, four children: Danny, Rick, Kathy, and Renee; and two step children: Sally and Dado Tapia.  He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Daniel, Leslie, Mark, Theresa, and Rick; and four great grandchildren:  Jacob, Gabrielle, Colin, and Elizabeth.  Born in Yorktown, Texas, on May 3, 1927, he served in the Navy during World War II as a 1st Class Seaman in the Pacific theatre.  After being honorably discharged in May of 1946, he started his residency in Azusa.  Married in June 1951 to Ruth Noriega, Dan took a manufacturing position with General Felt Industries and retired in the early 1990s. In the ensuing years, he remained active in the community: a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels organization, a member of the Esperanza Club, a committee member on the Nutritional Advisory Counsel, organized turn-around trips from Azusa to Laughlin, and called Bingo at the Azusa Senior Center for many years.  In addition, he dabbled at politics by volunteering at his local voting percent and was named Honorary Citizen of Azusa Golden Days.  Dan enjoyed helping those in need and maintaining social connections.
