Danny Lucero, 51, lost his battle to a rare neurological disorder on April 2, 2016 with his wife and children surrounding him. He is survived by his loving wife, Prudence; son, Daniel, Jr.; daughter, Andi; mother Rachel Luna and step-father Manuel; brothers Morris and Chris, as well as many friends, family members and law enforcement brothers and sisters. He was a man who gave to his community and was loved by all.
He was born in Albuquerque, NM on May 26, 1964. He was an air traffic controller in the US Army for three years and served as an Albuquerque Police Department officer for 20 years before retiring. He loved his job so much, he returned to the department for another nine years before retiring again in April of 2015. He was most currently employed by the supportive Albuquerque Armed Response team. He was an avid Lobo fan. He was a season-ticket holder for all UNM athletics and was known for the huge tailgate parties he hosted – rain or shine.
The Lucero family would like to thank the Barrow Neurological Institute staff, especially Danny’s surgeon, Dr. Peter Nakaji, the staff of Healthsouth, and the nurses and doctors of Presbyterian Hospital, especially his primary physician, Dr. A. Kumar.
