Daniel Martin Ellinger, Sr passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016 in Regional Hospital.
Daniel was born to William and Rosemary Lawrence Ellinger on February 4, 1953.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joyce Day Ellinger; one son, Daniel Ellinger Jr.; and one daughter, Mendi Utterback; his pride and joy grandchildren, Logan Ellinger and Jessica of Lafayette, Indiana, Gabby Tarwater, David Utterback, Jr. and Daniel Ellinger III, all of Terre Haute. He is also survived by two brothers, William “JR” Ellinger and Betty Lou and Max Ellinger and Donna; two sisters, Brenda Bess and Dave and Donna Uhey and Mark, all of Terre Haute; five brother in laws, Randy Day and Loretta of Farmersburg, David Day, Wayne Day and MaryAnn, Scott Day and Amy, all of Sullivan and Charles Day and Patty of Texas; three sister in laws, Tammy Day of Terre Haute, Teresa Cox and Jim of Sullivan, and Peggy Glover and Mike of Texas; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Daniel is also survived by his good buddy, Jerry Bandfield and his friends at the Honey Bucket.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Charles “Dick” and Delores Day; two brothers, Johnny Ellinger and Jerry Ellinger; two sisters, Carolyn Unraw and Janet Ellinger; brother in law, Ronnie Day; and good buddy, Les McDurmon.
Daniel retired from Wabash Valley Asphalt with the Operating Engineers Local #841. He loved NASCAR and was a member of the “Good Ole Boys” Racing Group. When he was younger, he loved to hunt, fish and go mushroom hunting. He enjoyed boating on the river, especially in the pontoon boat. He won several trophies shooting pool and loved playing horse shoes.
