Daniel Lee Zimmerman, 83, of Elkhart, passed away Monday morning, June 10, 2013, in his residence.
He was born Jan. 24, 1930, in Indianapolis to Leslie and Lois Irene (Botts) Zimmerman. On May 12, 1956, he married the love of his life, Barbara Rose (Kline) Zimmerman. She preceded him in death on Nov. 9, 2005.
Survivors include his daughter, Nancy (Carlo) DeRosa of Elkhart; son Kent (Margaret) Zimmerman of New Baltimore, Mich.; four grandchildren, Kacey Kilmer of Elkhart, Stephanie Zimmerman and Zachary Zimmerman, both of New Baltimore, and Karlie DeRosa of Elkhart; and nieces and nephews.
Daniel served in the U.S. Army as an MP during the Korean War. He later attended and received a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University.
He worked as the general store manager of Kmart on South Main Street in Elkhart for more than 15 years.
Daniel was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Elkhart and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Elkhart. For many years he was very active in several various clubs and organizations including the Aktion Club. He often enjoyed traveling with his wife, watching old movies and occasionally going to the casino.
