Dan passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on January 17, 1942 in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Ronald and Nathalie (Powers) Carlson. Dan was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving 5 years during the Vietnam Conflict, working on B-52 bombers.

On March 2, 1963, he was united in marriage to Gloria J. Brown. Dan was employed as an instrumentation manager by The Upjohn Co. for 31 years until his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, old cars, antiquing, hunting, fishing and his dogs.

But most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his wife, children and grandchildren. Surviving are the love of his life and wife of 53 years, Gloria Carlson; three children, Todd (Samantha) Carlson of Kalamazoo, Melissa Carlson of Kalamazoo, and Christine (Garrett) Schouwburg of Mattawan; two grandchildren, Dannielle and William Schouwburg; sisters-in-law, Bobbie Carlson, Joy (Joe) Joseph, and Micki Mohr; brother-in-law, Sam (Faye) Brown; and several wonderful nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his two brothers, Michael and Christopher Carlson.
