Daniel Lee Babcock, 55 years, passed away Saturday, November 9th, 2013, in Midland. Dan is the eldest son, born September 25, 1958, in Midland, MI to Lois Anne Crosby and raised by his step-father Wendell (Bing) Crosby.
Dan was a 1977 graduate of Bullock Creek High School and was employed at G.E. Insulation for 17 years as an Industrial Insulator, earning his Journeyman’s License in 2006. He excelled at his craft and was soon promoted to Safety Specialist and then to Quality Specialist. Most recently Dan acted as the on-site Scheduling Coordinator and as Assistant Supervisor. He enjoyed his work and took pride in his advancement from Tradesman to Journeyman to Supervisor. He was a true believer that hard work was its own reward and he prided himself on “teaching that lesson” to everyone he could.
Dan had many interests, first and foremost being his beloved mistress and pride and joy – his Harley Davidson Electra Glide Classic. Dan loved riding with friends or simply alone enjoying the countryside and the joys of nature. He rode his motorcycle extensively, loving the beauty of his home State. Many a year could find him and his “biker” friends at one of the annual rides to Cycle-Moore in Interlochen, the time trials in Indy, Wauseon Ohio, or any number of destinations right here in the State. At his second home in Leelanau County, Dan fell in love with M-22, riding the roads and enjoying the curves nearly every weekend he was at the Estate; his favorite destination being the overlook on M-22 near Frankfurt. Most recently Dan discovered the joy and boating and spent many weekends, last summer enjoying his new pontoon and old friends at his weekend retreat, “the Estate” at Leelanau Pines Campground.
Dan is survived by his wife of 22 years, Kari Babcock; his son, Lee Daniel Babcock (Jessica) of Midland and his daughter Ashleigh Marie Babcock, still at home; grandsons Micah Lee and Seth Daniel Babcock; mother and step-father Lois Anne and Wendell (Bing) Crosby; brother David (Teresa) Babcock of Canton, MI; nieces and nephews; Melissa (Brad) Nolan; their children Aiden, Cole, and Mason of Beaufort, SC; Brad Babcock and Luke Babcock of Canton, MI. In-Laws, Wanda (Kenneth) Maloney and LeRoy (Carol) Moe, Brother’s-in-Law Brett (Katrina) Moe of Hubbardston, MI, and Bart (Dawn) Moe of Sanford, MI along with nieces and nephews Brendan, Katherine, Tyler, and Kaitlyn.
Dan was predeceased by his brother Timothy Babcock and his Grandparents William & Sophia Maloney.
