Daniel J. Dunham, 68, of Fairmount, Indiana, died Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at AMG Specialty Hospital in Muncie. Daniel was born on May 12, 1948 in Elwood, Indiana, son of the late Milton Dunham Sr. and Hannazola(Davis) Dunham. He was a 1966 graduate of Fairmount High School.

Daniel and Diane R. (Rhynearson) Dunham were married on September 11, 1971 at Crossroads Bible College in Farmland, Indiana. Daniel worked in construction for 45 years, mostly as a self-employed brick mason. He employed and worked with many of his nephews, getting them started in their respective trades.

Daniel was a friendly and out going man who never met a stranger and never hesitated to help a person in need. He enjoyed the adrenaline rush of zip-lining, power parachuting, hot air balloons, climbing, and hiking. He also enjoyed gardening, genealogical research, and reading–particularly books about history.

He also considered himself a birthright Quaker. He loved his cats and will be particularly missed by Sascha, a three legged rescue cat with whom he spent many hours. Daniel had helped care for his sister and brother-in-law, Dawnetta and George, before their deaths in January 2017.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Diane, son, David (Karen) Dunham and their children Sophia and Basil of Ft. Wayne, IN, sister, Patricia (Dale) Aldrich, Omaha, NE, sister-in-law, Darlene Dunham, Jonesboro, IN, two brothers, Harlan (Evelyn) Dunham, Marion, IN, Thomas Dunham, Wabash, IN, many nieces and nephews, and mother-in-law, Polly Brown, Rushville, IN. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Dawnetta and George Tomlin, and brother, Milton Dunham Jr.
