Daniel (“Don”) H. Kaufmann

Lincroft – Daniel (“Don”) H. Kaufmann, a resident of Sunrise of Lincroft for the past five years, died on Friday at Jersey Shore Medical Center after an illness.
Mr. Kaufmann was born in Newark, the son of the late James H. Kaufmann and Helen G. Kaufmann (Arndt). He moved to Red Bank and then Eatontown as a young child and lived in the Shore area all of his life. He attended St. James Elementary School and Red Bank Catholic High School. He served in the Armed Forces during the Korean War and completed his studies in the U.S. Army Engineer School while in service. He started working for his father, a plumber, at the age of 10. At the age of 28, he was made a partner in James H. Kaufmann and Son Plumbing and Heating in Eatontown, then took over the business in 1963 and ran it until he retired in 1995.
Mr. Kaufmann had a long and outstanding record of community service. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post #325. He was a lifetime member of the Eatontown First Aid Squad and the Eatontown Fire Department. He served as a Councilman for Eatontown, as well as Chairman of the Zoning Board of Adjustment and member of the Planning Board. He was a proud lifetime member and past President of the Lions Club of Eatontown, as well as a charter and lifetime member of the Eatontown Elks Lodge #2402. He also spent many happy years as an active member of the Long Branch Ice Boat and Yacht Club.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Kaufmann, who lives at Sunrise of Lincroft; his children: David Kaufmann of Eatontown; Cathleen Kaufmann and her husband Steven Wilson of Portland, OR; and Jim Kaufmann of Neptune; and his grandchildren: Kelly Kaufmann, Benjamin Wilson and Nathan Wilson.
