Daniel (Danny) Edward Bond of Chester, VA passed away on Monday, August 12, 2024 at his home with his family after a battle against ALS. He was born on Sept. 28, 1965, to the late W.D. Bond, and Peggy Bond of Chesterfield County, VA.
Danny loved airplanes! He was a gifted A&P/IA Mechanic, a BFI in Ultralights, and he owned and operated his Aerobatic Aircraft Restoration Service, specializing in Pitts Aircraft. He flew over 5000+ hours for almost 30 years. Last year he just received the prestigious International Aerobatic Club (IAC) Curtis Pitts Memorial Trophy Award, given due to his outstanding contribution to aerobatics through creating a product(s)/design that made a lasting impression on the world of aerobatics. He taught aerobatics, performed Pitts checkouts for several years, was the President of IAC Chapter #19, and held and performed in numerous International Aerobatic Competitions, with lots of wins. And his building, skill, and love of car racing since he was a young man had come back into the picture before these last couple of years as he showcased his talents in the Vintage Modified Racing class, as Bond 007, where he’d built and raced another winning car.
He is survived by his wife, Lori S. Bond, two daughters who started flying with him as babies, Loran and Danielle, one sister, Dawn Bond Ackley and her husband, Larry, of Cheltenham, PA, and three nephews, Josiah (Nikki) Ackley, Micah (Liesel) Ackley with daughters, Emma and Kaylee, and Kerris (Dina) Ackley. Throughout Danny’s ALS battle, we saw how lucky he was to have numerous friends reach out and contact him! What blessings!
