Daniel E. Whitehill, 62, of Route 38, Emlenton, Richland Twp., Venango County, died Monday morning, October 19, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca, following a courageous year long battle with cancer. Dan was born in Oil City on October 14, 1947. He was the son of Deloris J. Winters Whitehill of Nickleville and the late Howard E. Whitehill. Mr. Whitehill was a 1966 graduate of Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School, which was the school’s first graduating class. Dan is survived by his wife, Karen L. Hetzler Whitehill. The Whitehills were married on April 7, 1984 by the Rev. Wilbert Beck at Old Zion United Methodist Church in Emlenton. The couple had celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in April. Mr. Whitehill attended New Zion E.C. Church in Emlenton. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, telling jokes, the company of friends and family, and his cat, Oreo. He had been employed for nineteen years at Knox Glass Containers, and retired with more than 20 years of service with Superior Absorbants in Emlenton. In addition to his wife and mother, two sons survive, Daniel J. Whitehill and Neil E. Whitehill both of Emlenton. Seven sisters survive, Patricia Kerlin and her husband Ron, and Deb Whitehill, all of Nickleville, Brenda Sloan and her husband Rick of Emlenton, Nola Chase and her husband Rodger of Clintonville, Dorothy “Dort” Whitehill of Franklin, Jane Eaton and her husband Jim of Chester, WV, and Lucretia “Sis” Dittman of Knox, and three brothers, Dave Whitehill and his wife Diane of Nickleville, Ted Whitehill and his wife Laurie of Knox, and Howard E. “Bub” Whitehill Jr. and his wife Sandra of Freehold, NJ. He is survived by his mother-in-law, Dolores Hetzler of Emlenton, an uncle, Jim Winters of Nickleville, as well as other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and sisters in law. In addition to his father, who died November 28, 1999, Mr. Whitehill was preceded in death by a son, Brian S. Whitehill, who died July 17, 2008, and a nephew, Christopher H. Kerlin, who died October 5, 1991, and his father in law, John Hetzler, who died October 17, 2006, and a good friend, Mike Weckerly.
