Obituary
WATSONTOWN — Daniel E. “Danny” Schnure, 63, of Pond View Lane, Watsontown, passed away Monday, April 21, 2008 at his home.
Born November 20, 1944 in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Edgar Hottenstein and Dorothy Anna (Hess) Schnure. On June 20,1970 he married the former Karen L. McCollin and they have celebrated 37 years of marriage.
A 1962 graduate of Lewisburg High School, he recieved his Associates Degree from Penn State University main campus in Turf Grass Management. His first job following graduation was at a golf course in Kennett Square.
Danny enlisted in the US Army in 1965 and spent three years in the Army Corps of Engineers working in Ethiopia. He recieved the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and qualified as a Sharp-shooter with the rifle.
In July 1970 Danny began his career with PPL in the coal yards and later retired in July 2007 as the Operations Coordinator in the control room at the Washingtonville power station.
He was a member of the American Legion, Watsontown, the NRA, the North Montour Sportsman’s Club, Keystone Sportman’s Association, Ye Golden Springs Hunting and Fishing Club in Union County, the Mid-Penn English Springer Spaniel Club, and other various outdoor sportman’s clubs. He enjoyed field trials and was a gunner in the Mid-Atlantic region. He loved the outdoors and had a great respect for nature.
Eearlier in his life he assisted his brother-in-law, Tom Aunkst with coaching Little League Baseball in Watsontown.
A dedicated blood donor, he rarely missed an oppurtunity to donate blood through the American Red Cross.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Watsontown where he had served on the property committee. While being raised in Lewisburg, his home church was the First Baptist of Lewisburg.
Danny also served as treasurer of the Hottenstein Family Reunions for many years.
Surviving besides his wife Karen, are two sons: Christopher Daniel Schnure of Pleasant Gap and Andrew Arthur Schnure of Yorktown, VA; a brother, Theron A. “Terry” Schnure and his wife Andrea of Windsor, CT; a sister, Sharon S. Laverdure and her husband Richard of East Stroudsburg; a sister-in-law, Edna Mae Aunkst and her husband Thomas of Pond View Lane, Watsontown; his mother-in-law, Grace McCollin of Watsontown; a seven nieces and nephews: Traci Aunkst, Dalmatia; Douglas Aunkst, Mission Viejo, CA; Jonas E. Atwood, Jonathan H. Schnure, Timothy N. Schnure, Jodi B. Dannels and R. Bryan Laverdure.
The family will be recieving friends from 11 AM to 1 PM Saturday at First Lutheran CHurch, 400 Main Street, Watsontown where a memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Scott Zimmerer, interim pastor, officiating with the Rev. Paul A. Smith of First Presbyterian Church of Watsontown assisting. Burial with full military honors will follow in Watsontown Cemetery. Everyone is invited to return to First Lutheran Church following the graveside committal service to share a Celebration of Danny’s life with the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his memory be made to Evangelical Home Hospice, One Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837.
