Daniel E. Lyons, 83, of LaSalle, passed away November 24, 2015 at Manor Court in Peru.

Dan was born November 23, 1932 in Dimmick Township to Daniel and Lucella (McGrath) Lyons.Dan graduated from Saint Bede Academy and earned both Bachelors and Masters degrees from Northern Illinois University. Dan taught for many years at various schools. He was also a high school guidance counselor at Glenbard North High School in Carol Stream for several years. Dan later became a real estate agent in West Chicago. Throughout his life, Dan enjoyed working with his brothers on the family farm. A veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War, the picture shows him in his Korean War military uniform. He was very proud of his service to his country. He had been a member of the LaSalle Veterans of Foreign Wars.Dan was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church in Dimmick Township. After Sacred Heart closed in 2007, he joined Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Peterstown. Dan was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus in LaSalle. Dan was a wonderful son, brother and uncle. He was an avid Chicago White Sox fan, traveler, reader and conversationalist. Dan especially loved learning and reading about American history.

He is survived by his brother, Robert (Barbara) Lyons of Dimmick Township; seven nieces and nephews, Sheila (Christopher) Rudolphi of Inverness, Karen (Kurt) Kelly of Arlington Heights, Richard (Renee) Lyons of Dimmick Township, Diane (James) McMahon of Arlington Heights, Robert (Janine) Lyons of Mount Zion, Linda (Thomas) Mahaffey of Goodfield and Mark (Jane) Lyons of Madison, Wisconsin. Dan is also survived by eighteen great-nieces and nephews.Dan was preceded in death by his father, Daniel, on May 5, 1958; his mother, Lucella, on May 23, 1968; his brother, Richard, on March 23, 1992 and his sister-in-law, Catherine, on July 26, 2007.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Bede Academy or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
