Daniel Adam “Danny” Williams, age 32, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016. He was born July 27, 1983, in Mattoon Illinois.

He was the beloved son of Arden Williams and the late Tom Williams of Grantville, GA. Along with his father, Danny is preceded in death by his uncle John Anthony Williams. Danny is survived by his mother Arden Williams and brothers, Jon Williams and Chris Williams of Chicago, IL, aunts, and uncles; Rebecca Williams of Norcross, GA, Sharon and Charlie Hice of Miami, FL., Steve Comm and MaryAnn Harvilla Comm of Nashville, TN., Patricia and Gary Benson of Dent, MN., Judy and Butch Ealy of Mattoon, IL. Danny came to Georgia with his family in 1992; he quickly made Coweta County his forever home, informing his parents that everyone he met made him feel a part of their circle of friends.

He graduated from East Coweta High School in 2001 and went on to attend West Central Tech and Clayton State University’s culinary program. Danny worked at many restaurants in Coweta and Fayette Counties, most often as a cook. He joined the network of another area restaurant “people”, forming friendships with many of them. If you asked about Danny at any restaurant in the two-county areas they knew who he was and would tell you all about him. Danny’s restaurant work ended one day in the summer of 2009. He had accompanied his mom to an exhibit opening in Vidalia, where he met a tugboat captain. After the conversation, Danny informed his surprised and excited parents that he was going on a test trip on a tugboat that weekend! He did not return for two months. We knew he had found his dream. Throughout the seven years he proudly served on a variety of ocean-going tugboats, most recently with Dann Ocean Towing, Danny acquired many skills, in addition to improving his knowledge through classes in seamanship. He also learned from all his fellow crewmates; he thought highly of them.

A dream of Danny’s was to be a captain someday. Yet he never forgot his cooking background and always cooked for the crews of the many tugs on which he worked. It was not uncommon to see photos on Facebook of Danny’s culinary creations. With all that, he never forgot his friends at home; each time he returned from a tour on the water was cause for a celebration. Danny lost a dear friend, Robert, last year, followed by the loss of his dad Tom (whom he called his best friend). He was working on recovering from those tragedies. Now he has left us too. The outpouring of love for Danny has been swift and overwhelming. His family always believed him to be a bright shining light.
